Ovechkin at 894

Alexander Ovechkin scored two goals on Friday night in a home win vs Chicago. Wayne Gretzky was in attendance as he watched the Great 8 score number 894. Ovechkin was at 892 goals entering Friday April 4th. Entering the game, Ovechkin was on a three game goal streak. Ovechkin will have his next shot at the record on Sunday April 6th as the Capitals play the Islanders on the road. Gretzky figures to be in attendance on Sunday.

Celtics get record 3’s

On Friday April 4th the Boston Celtics were playing the Phoenix Suns. They broke the made 3 point shots season record. The record was held by the 2022-2023 Golden State Warriors. The 22-23 Warriors made 1,363 three point shots. Kristaps Porzingis tied the record with 9:37 left in the second quarter on a shot from the top of the arc. 3:40 into the second quarter Payton Pritchard hit the record making a left-wing shot. Boston is currently at 1,370 made three’s on the season.  


Frozen Four is set

The Frozen Four is set two New Blood’s two Blue Blood’s Penn State and Western Michigan are both having their first Frozen Four appearances. The Other two teams are Denver and Boston University. BU is in their third straight frozen four and 25th overall. Defending Champs Denver are in their 19th overall Frozen Four appearance they have a record 10 championships.


Denver will play Western Michigan in the semifinals. Boston University and Penn State will also match up in the semifinals. Boston University beat Cornell in the Toledo Regional Finals 3-2 in OT. In The Fargo Regional Final Western Michigan beat UMass 2-1 and punched their ticket to the frozen four. Denver beat #1 seed Boston College 3-1 to win the Manchester Regional and advance to the Frozen Four. Penn St in the regional they were hosting in Allentown beat UConn 3-2 in OT and won the Allentown Regional, and made the Frozen Four.


Women’s Championship is Set

South Carolina and UConn will match up in the women’s march madness championship on Sunday April 6th. The Gamecocks are going back to the final four hoping to repeat as National Champions and win their third in four years. The Huskies are seeking their 12th overall national championship; it would be their first since 2016. South Carolina routed Texas in the National Semifinals and won 74-57. UConn beat UCLA in the National Semifinals 85-51. Connecticut is 6.5 point favorites as of April 5th. The National Championship will be April 6th in Tampa at 3:00 pm EST. The over/under is set at 132.5.


Copa del Rey Semifinals

Real Madrid and Real Sociedad were ready for matchup number two in the two game aggregate series. Real Madrid led 1-0 in aggregate entering the matchup. The goals started early as in the 16th minute Ander Barrenetxea scored and made it 1-0 Real Sociedad. Then after some missed and saved shots Real Madrid tied it at 1 a piece on a Endrick goal. The game continued and after three added minutes the first half ended 1-1. Then 27 minutes after the half an own goal gave Real Sociedad the lead back. And as time continued to tick Real Sociedad scored again making it 3-1 on a Mikel Oyarzabal. Then just two minutes later Jude Bellngham made it a one goal game. The clock continued to tick as Real Sociedad led 3-2 but, Real Madrid had other plans as Aurelien Tchouameni scored on a header. Then in 90+3 Real Sociedad scored again Oyarzabal had his second of the game and made it 4-3. The Second half ended 4-4 on aggregate so time was added and that proved the difference because, in the 115th minute Antonio Rudiger scored. The Clock ran out and Real Madrid advanced on aggregate 5-4. Real Madrid will be playing their bitter rivals Barcelona in the Copa del Rey championship match. The Championship will be on April 26.
