Sorry that it is a day late. I was sick.
Super Bowl
What a great end to the NFL season! The Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots faced each other in the Super Bowl. The game wasn’t very competitive, but it was exciting. The first half was much less exciting then the second, as Seattle jumped out to a 9-0 lead on three field goals. The third quarter added three points for Seattle with another field goal. The game got better in the fourth. Sam Darnold found tight end AJ Barner for the first TD of the game and put Seattle up 19-0. The Patriots finally got on the board with a deep pass from Drake Maye to Mack Hollins. The Hawks scored another FG then got a pick six. The Pats scored another TD, but failed the two point conversion. That was the Super Bowl and Seattle avenged their loss eleven years ago and got their franchise’s second championship.
NDSU and Sac State Jumping Up
This past week has been absolutely crazy in college football conference realignment. Last Sunday, the FCS powerhouse North Dakota State Bisons announced that they were moving from the FCS (D-1 AA) up to the Mountain West conference of the FBS (D-1 A). The Bison have won ten championships in FCS, all since 2011. Yesterday, the Sacramento State Hornets announced that they were moving up from the FCS to join the MAC in the FBS. These two moves are shocking and should have huge impacts on the landscape of College Football.
#1 Arizona Drops Second Straight
Entering Monday, the Arizona Wildcats were 23-0 and ranked #1 in the nation. They played the Kansas Jayhawks on Monday night. Kansas was missing their best player, but still managed to keep the game tight, only trailing by three at the half despite not leading at all in the first half. The Jayhawks took their first lead about half way through the second half. They never gave up and beat the Wildcats 82-78 to hand them their first loss. This game left the Miami (OH) Redhawks as the only undefeated Men’s basketball team in the country. Arizona had a chance to rebound last night facing the 16th ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders. This was a back and forth game that was 66-all entering OT. The Red Raiders led all of OT and beat the Wildcats 78-75 to give Arizona its second straight loss.
