Milwaukee to the World Series

The Milwaukee Brewers are heading to the World Series. Milwaukee swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS to get to their first fall classic in 44 years. Milwaukee took Game 1 by a 2-1 score. They then came back from a 4-3 Game 2 deficit to win 7-4, thanks to a three-RBI day from William Contreras. Game 3 was even more Brewers domination, as Milwaukee hit three home runs and won 6-2. In Game 4, the Dodgers jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two innings. However, Milwaukee wasn’t giving up. They tied the game in the fifth, then got the go-ahead run via a Garrett Mitchell solo shot, to punch their ticket to the World Series. Milwaukee became the first team ever to sweep their opponent in a seven game series after being swept by that opponent the previous season.

ALCS Battle

The ALCS between the Tampa Bay Rays and Cleveland Guardians keeps on rolling. The first game was Cleveland dominance, as they took down the one-seed Rays 7-3 thanks to a three-run ninth inning. The Rays struck back the next day with a stellar Freddy Peralta pitching performance that evened the series 1-1. Game 3 saw the Rays leading 2-1, until Petey Halpin hit a two-run homerun, and the Guardians bullpen held on to win 3-2. Yesterday’s Game 4 was postponed and rescheduled, eliminating the travel day for these squads.

College Football Week 7

Happy third Saturday of October. As a College Football fan that only means one thing, Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Tennessee Volunteers. This year, the Vols host Bama for the annual rivalry in the same slot on the calendar. The Tide are coming off of a hard-fought loss to the top ranked Georgia Bulldogs. Tennessee, on the other hand, won. However, it was a struggle against the bottom-of-the-barrel Arkansas Razorbacks. However, this Week 7 isn’t just this rivalry. It’s probably the best week of the entire season. Another ranked SEC battle is between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and LSU Tigers. Both teams are trying to keep their seasons afloat, especially LSU, who can’t afford to slip up after last week’s loss to the Kentucky Wildcats. The SEC keeps delivering, as another once-promising season hangs on by a thread. The 4-2 Florida Gators have lost two straight and are suddenly reeling after being ranked in the Top 10. It doesn’t get much better for their opponent. The Texas Longhorns lost an emotional Red River Rivalry game last week to the Oklahoma Sooners. This was Texas’s first loss, and all of the sudden they are fighting to remain in the national conversation. The SEC continues to deliver this weekend, as they have a Top 15 matchup between the Ole Miss Rebels and Missouri Tigers. Both of these teams have looked good, but not great. This is a huge test to see who is really a contender in this cloudy SEC race. The final SEC game to spotlight is the Kentucky Wildcats vs. Oklahoma Sooners matchup. Oklahoma is coming off of a win over their rivals, Texas, and Kentucky just upset LSU. The Wildcats have been a huge surprise story and the Sooners defense can keep them in any game. Both these teams are hungry for a win, as they are both being overlooked and want to make a statement.

The Big 10 has a big game. The surprisingly good UCLA Bruins match up with the equally surprising Wisconsin Badgers. These teams are flashy and both have the desire to assert themselves into the playoff race.

However, all these games are just the appetizers. We have two Top 10 matchups this week. One in Bloomington and one in Provo. The one in Provo is the #3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish taking on the #6 BYU Cougars. This game is possibly the biggest BYU home game this century, for good reason. Both the Irish and Cougars remain undefeated and this matchup will jump one of them up into the National Championship conversation. This game is especially important for Notre Dame, who will have limited chances to prove themselves due to their weak schedule. However, the biggest game this weekend is a rematch of last year’s Big 10 Championship. It’s the #4 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. the #5 Indiana Hoosiers. This game will prove that one team is ready to step up. It will also determine a conference favorite. Right now this conference is looking for consistently good teams,— the winner of this game will be the model of great. The other will be thrown back with the likes of UCLA and Wisconsin battling for a rematch. This is a surprisingly weak year for the Big 10, and one of these squads has to step up. As for the rematch, there is nothing either of these teams want more than a win today at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, IN.
