Some of the biggest games this weekend are:
Boise State Broncos @ #5 Oregon Ducks
The last time these two played was in 2024. Oregon barely pulled out a 37-34 win. The Ducks lost in the national semifinals last season. Boise State finished 9-5 last season, winning their conference, but losing to Washington in the LA Bowl.
Baylor Bears vs. Auburn Tigers
Auburn won 38-24 in last season’s Week 1 matchup with Baylor. The Tigers went 5-7 last year. Baylor also finished 5-7.
Clemson Tigers @ #12 LSU Tigers
Clemson finished an underwhelming 7-6 last season. LSU also disappointed, as they went 7-6 as well. Both teams are looking to rebound here.
Washington State Cougars @ #18 Washington Huskies
It’s Apple Cup time. Washington beat their bitter rivals 59-24 last season. The Huskies lead the all time series 77-34-6.
Wisconsin Badgers vs. #11 Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame barely missed the playoffs last season, and finished 10-2. Wisconsin had yet another disappointing season with their 4-8 record.
Ole Miss lost to Miami in the CFP semifinals last season. Louisville finished 9-4 again last season.
#19 SMU Mustangs @ Florida State Seminoles
FSU had another frustrating season, finishing 5-7 just two years removed from a 13-1 season. Now in the third season after that, they look to get back on track. After making the playoffs in 2024, SMU went 9-4 last season.
Game Predictions:
Oregon 37-20 over Boise State
Auburn 31-27 over Baylor
LSU 33-24 over Clemson
Washington 45-21 over Washington State
Louisville 28-27 over Ole Miss
SMU 44-37 over FSU
MLB Update
The Ameerican League Wild Card race is going strong. The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are in position to make the playoffs. The Cleveland Guardians are in that last spot, but the Toronto Blue Jays are one game behind, with the Texas Rangers two, and the Baltimore Orioles three games back. The Chciago White Sox and Houston Astros are trying to hold onto their division leads in this final month. The Tampa Bay Rays are 84-57 and in position for the AL #1 seed.
Over in the NL, the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers seem to have their divisions locked up. The Atlanta Braves are trying to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. The Phillies and Chicago Cubs have pulled away for the first two wild card spots. The final spot currently belongs to the San Diego Padres. However, the Arizona Diamondbacks are 0.5 games behind.
Houston Astros Yordan Alvarez’s triple crown run is under attack. He is sitting at .317 on his batting average, leading the MLB. But with RBIs, he is tied for the AL lead with Pete Alonso of the Orioles. And when it comes to home runs, he is tied for the AL lead with Tampa Bay Ray Chandler Simpson. The big question is will Yordan be able to hold on to the triple crown?
Phillies big man Kyle Schwarber has 40 homeruns, leading the MLB. Reds rookie Sal Stewart has 106 RBIs to lead the MLB. Luis Arraez, also from Philly, has the most hits, and Nasim Nunez of the Nationals leads the league in stolen bases. Milwaukee Brewer Jacob Misiorowski has a 1.97 ERA and 227 strikeouts to lead the MLB in both stats. Phillies pitcher Christopher Sanchez has 16 wins and 20 quality starts. Cam Schlittler of the Yankees has a 2.04 ERA and 210 strikeouts. And Atlanta’s Chris Sale has a 2.10 ERA and 18 quality starts.
