World Cup Group Stages

The World Cup group stages are coming to a close. Group A was won by Mexico, and they are joined in the knockouts by South Africa. South Korea still has a chance to advance, unlike Czechia who is eliminated. Switzerland and Canada were 1st and 2nd in Group B. Bosnia and Herzegovina is also through. Qatar is out of the tournament. Advancing out of Groups C and D are Brazil, Morocco, USA, Australia, and Paraguay. Scotland still has a chance to advance. Haiti and Türkiye are eliminated. Germany, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador are all advancing from Group E. Curaçao is eliminated.


Netherlands topped Group F and is moving on. Japan and Sweden have both made the knockouts. Tunisia is eliminated. Belgium and Egypt have advanced. Iran still has a chance to advance. New Zealand is eliminated. Spain has advanced, as have the biggest surprise of the tournament Cabo Verde. Uruguay and Saudi Arabia will not be advancing. France, Norway, and Senegal are moving on. Iraq is eliminated.


The remaining Groups each team have one game left. In these three groups Argentina, Columbia, Portugal, England, and Ghana have advanced. Austria, Algeria, Congo DR, Uzbekistan, and Croatia are still trying to advance. Jordan and Panama are eliminated.


NHL Draft

Gavin McKenna was selected first overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. McKenna had 15 goals, 36 assists, and 51 points in 35 games last season at Penn State. The San Jose Sharks took Ivar Stenberg and Keaton Verhoeff with their two top 10 picks. The Vancouver Canucks took Caleb Malhotra at 3rd overall. With the 6th selection the Canucks’ division rivals, the Calgary Flames, took Carson Carels. Daxon Rudolph was taken at 4th by the Buffalo Sabres. Alberts Smits was taken 5th overall by the New York Rangers. Chase Reid was taken by the Seattle Kraken at 7th. The Winnipeg Jets took Viggo Bjorck at 8th overall. And rounding out the top 10, the Nashville Predators took Wyatt Cullen.


NBA Draft

AJ Dybantsa was taken first overall by the Washington Wizards. Darryn Peterson was taken second by the Sacramento Kings. Cameron Boozer went to the Memphis Grizzlies. Caleb Wilson and Keaton Waller were taken by the Chicago Bulls and LA Clippers, respectively. Mikel Brown Jr. went to the Brooklyn Nets. Darius Acuff Jr. from Arkansas is a Sacramento Kings player now. Kingston Flemings to the Atlanta Hawks. Morez Johnson Jr. went to the Dallas Mavericks. Brayden Burries went to the Milwaukee Bucks, Yaxel Lendeborg to the Golden State Warriors, and Aday Mara to the Oklahoma City Thunder.


WNBA History

The Toronto Tempo made history against the Los Angeles Sparks. On the way to winning 125-97, the Tempo had the most points for a single team in one game. Marina Mabrey also tied a WNBA record for most points in one game at 53.
