NBA Finals

The NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks continues. Entering Game 4 Knicks led 2-1. Just like the other games in the series San Antonio started strong. San Antonio led 76-49 at halftime. The lead eventually grew to 29 at 81-52. The lead was at 20 with 9.5 minutes left. However, the Knicks had other plans. They came back and took a 105-104 lead. Stephon Castle made two free throws to put San Antonio back in front. Jalen Brunson missed a 3 but OG Anunoby tipped the rebound in to give the Knicks a 107-106 win. The Knicks now have a 3-1 lead with a chance to seal a championship on Saturday.

Stanley Cup Finals

Game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals was a huge swing game. The Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights were tied 2-2 entering the match. The winner would take a pivotal 3-2 lead. The game began with Pavel Dorofeyev’s opening goal for Vegas. Carolina’s Jordan Staal scored to even the game at the first intermission. In the second Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho gave Carolina a 3-1 lead with one period to play. In the third Svechnikov and Dorofeyev each got goals, and Carolina won 4-2. Carolina is now up 3-2 with the next game on Sunday.

World Cup

The 2026 World Cup in North America has begun. In the opening game Mexico played South Africa in Mexico City. Mexico started early with a Julián Quiñones goal. The 1-0 scoreline remained through the first half and into the second. Early in the second South Africa’s situation got worse when Sphphelo Sithole got a red card. Sithole had already been having a bad day allowing the first Mexican goal. Raul Jiménez scored in the 67th minute extend Mexico’s lead. Themba Zwane’s red card in the 84th minute put South Africa down to 9 men. César Montes’s got a red card at 90+2 to put Mexico down to 10 players. However, that didn’t matter as Mexico took a 2-0 victory in the World Cup’s opening match. Late last night Group A play continued between Czechia and South Korea. The first half had no goals. Czechia got the fun started in the 59th minute with Ladislav Krejci’s goal. Hwang In-Beom tied the game at 1-1 for South Korea. Oh Hyeon-Gyu gave South Korea the go ahead goal in the 80th minute. The Korean’s held on and gained 3 points.
